I may soon be in the market for a second computer - I will probably be taking a job at a college and would like a machine for my office as well as one for home. I already have an AT clone. So, Im looking at small computer thingies. The following are in the running: [3,4]86 based machine - may be expensive, but has compatability with my current machine Mac ?? - expensive, but nice UI. Amiga ?? Really, I dont know much about the Amiga - hence this post. I looked at an Amiga in a local store recently - but the store was populated by people who couldnt seem to answer a question any more complicated than "Where is the keyboard?" So, why should I buy an Amiga? Why should I not buy an Amiga? More specific questions: C[++] compilers? Whats out there, what is the price range? Video. The amiga I saw had disappointing resolution. Is this stillthe case for the new one (the 3000?) ? Are boards available for better video? Lisp or Scheme? Anything available? TeX? Is there a TeX for the Amiga? Does it work well? PC emulator boards? How much and how good? Can an Amiga read PC floppies? Are ethernet cards available, how much? And anything else you'd like to say. Please respond by mail and if things are interesting and informative enough, I'll summarize. -- jeff putnam (jefu@pawl.rpi.edu)
