As sort of a follow up to conditions for the Amiga in Madison (home of ASDG, if you care to know), here is a short anecdote about one prof trying to establish an Amiga lab here. This prof has an Amiga, and teaches courses in Computer art. A friend of mine took the class (and got a good grade on an awful animation). This prof tried to expand the availability of machines set up for doing animation and other art. Knowing the Amiga well, he set about a proposal to do his lab with Amigas. The school said NO, only Macs or IBMs. As a result, he chose Mac, spending way too much money for little functionality compared to his original proposal. Currently, as far as we know, there are 2 Amigas on this campus of about 100,000. One is a 200, belonging to the prof, the other is a 500, set up in the 'serious' student lab, owned by a student. I only know of 2 other students who own Amigas, and the other besides me has posted here. Our city has a fairly active user group, but the machines are just not available for sale from a reputable, authorized dealer (our local is authorized, but hardly reputable). There are probably more students with Amigas, but I've never met them personally. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Kitakaze Tatsu Raito Neil Gilmore internet:gilmore@macc.wisc.edu | | Jararvellir, MACC, UW-Madison bitnet: gilmore@wiscmac3 | | Middle Kingdom Madison, Wi DoD #00000064 (no ints here) | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
