[comp.sys.amiga] GIF's on the Amiga?

rb4572@leah.Albany.Edu (Ron E. Bangel) (06/08/90)

Does anyone know of a way to display GIF's on an Amiga2000? Thanks.

There is a PD or SharWare program called hamgif that does a good job at
displaying GIF files.

Aren't you the guy who was asking for a repost of the pirate bbs numbers?
Yeah. I think you are.

Never Mind.

hamgif, or giffy as it's sometimes called, displays GIF pictures quickly,
but is not very reliable when it comes to converting 256 color VGA GIFs
to the Amiga's HAM mode.
To my knowledge, the best GIF-to-IFF converter is called ShamSharp. It's
slower than hamgif, but it makes beautiful HAM pictures from VGA GIFs and
it leaves you with an IFF picture that you can load into any Amiga graphics
program.

Gee, there are some idiots around. Don't respond to this article,
because I've heard that some people pirate software. What a crime :-)
I replied to the original post, because I believed he didn't know what the
numbers were. The reply I received confirmed this. So leave the guy alone.

Back to the subject - GIF to IFF conversions. In /incoming/amiga on
xanth, there is a program called 'giftoIFF.zoo' (or something like it). It
does the job for me.

I like to use hamsharp to convert the gifs to iff and use digipaint or superview to scroll around in them.
