[comp.sys.amiga] the Tetris legal mess: WSJ, 6/8

nsw@cbnewsm.att.com (Neil Weinstock) (06/11/90)

For those interested, the 6/8 edition of the Wall Street Journal has a
front-page story on Tetris, more specifically about the legal mess surrounding
it. Seems like there's about a million different entities who "own" the
rights to it, and they're all suing each other. The Russion inventors have
made about $800.

Interestingly, Spectrum Holobyte wasn't even mentioned.

It would be funny as hell if Spectrum Holobyte got sued out of business
because it was discovered that THEY were infringing the copyright!

Tough luck! Spectrum Holobyte is an official licensee of Tetris.

BTW, the reason SH is not even mentioned in the article as being part of the
lawsuits is pretty simple. The litigation of over the rights for home machines
like the Nintendo Entertainment system and Gameboy. These systems can generate
HUGE sales (in the millions). Compared to that the few thousand sales that
companies like SH might do for a micro version are ridiculous.
