Recently, a number of people have been discussing the merits of various programming languages on the Amiga. I wanted to share with you an experience I had recently. I've been programming in C for many years, and I finally got around to reading a book about C++. I will not discuss the merits of this language versus others, since everybody has different opinions on this kind of topic, I don't want to start a language war. All I will say is this: if you use C, I suggest that you read a book about C++. I found it a VERY mind-opening, enjoyable experience. I am very enthusiastic to start using this language, since its approach to programming mirrors the way that I think. Commodore's Dave Haynie has been writing some of his software (notably SetFont) in C++, and I have read his statements on how he likes the language. The book I read was "The Complete C++ Primer" by Keith Weiskamp and Bryan Flamig. This particular book has a number of errors in it, but I think the readability (very friendly) and the authors' approach make up for this deficiency. Why am I posting this to comp.sys.amiga? Because I think that the Amiga programming environment, paricularly Intuition's menus, gadgets, windows, etc., is very suitable for this language's object-oriented approach. Read a book. That's all I'm saying. I think you'll find it worthwhile.
