I'd make a quiet suggestion that the best way to "win" a usenet argument is not
to argue, but simply make your point as clearly as possible and ignore whatever
"rebuttals" follow.  A correlary is to not contradict anyone unless it really
matters - bad advice or contagious confusion is worth correcting, while simple
difference of opinion usually isn't.  Discuss things becuase you think they
are interesting and you think others would be interested, not becuase you feel
a need to convice someone or walk away victorious.

PS: I follow these guidelines occasionally...
