[ "Send lawyers, guns, and money ..." ] One of my favorite arcade-style games has always been Centipedes. Popular as it was, I've never seen a version of it (or anything even close, really) for the Amiga (or PClone/Mac/etc, for that matter). Anybody know of any such game? I miss blasting those 'shrooms ... /kim -- UUCP: kim@amdahl.amdahl.com or: {sun, decwrl, hplabs, pyramid, uunet, oliveb, ames}!amdahl!kim DDD: 408-746-8462 USPS: Amdahl Corp. M/S 249, 1250 E. Tried it out a long time ago and found it similar to those centipede games but with quite a few other things added in that I am sure I don't remember seeing in the arcades. -- **************************************************************************** // || Hardware : A2000, 3 megs, 2 internal 3 1/2" drives \\ // || Future Purchases : SCSI Controller, 40-60 meg harddrives, A3000 \X/ || jimmy@uhccux.uhcc.hawaii.edu or jimmy@uhccux.bitnet

Have you considered talking to the owners of the rights to Centipede about the possibility of licensing your version, and actually putting it on the market in some form (full commercial, shareware, etc)? There certainly seems to be alot of interest judging from the replies that have shown up in my mailbox already! Since the interest in the real arcade version seems quite low (hard to even find a Centipede box these days), they might be open to some additional cash flow from the game, and might be willing to strike a deal that isn't too stiff from your perspective. And you might pick up several $$$'s yourself! I wouldn't think it'd be too difficult to find a publisher, given that the game would almost be guaranteed to be a winner, and that the bulk of the R&D has already been done. As a suggestion, the publisher of PocoMan that has been recently discussed here might be a good choice, as they seem to have an "enlightened" attitude WRT copy-protection and multi-tasking, and worthy of further support. Or you might be able to do Shareware, and put out a crippled version (say only with the code in it for level one), and distribute it yourself (with the attendant headaches ... TANSTAAFL). Consider it? [BTW Bill, how do you do a "pixel-for-pixel copy" without turning the monitor 90 degrees? Or do you? :-) ] As to other alternatives, several people have told me that Evil Garden by Demonware is a very good clone, and that it uses a lookup-the-word form of protection, which isn't *too* terribly obnoxious. It is said to be HD installable, also. And though it does take over the machine :-(, Karl Koch tells me that it leaves vd0: intact. I have been warned to stay away from a package of games called Renaissance, which includes a poor version of Centipede It even uses a *joystick* (yuck), and doesn't respond to that very well. Plus other problems. A couple folks said that there's a pretty good PClone version that was posted to the net also. Sigh. Thanks to all who have responded thus far so quickly ... I shall certainly check out Evil Garden, though it really p*sses me off that it takes over the whole damn machine!
