Commodore has hinted in their information about the CDTV that there will be CD ROM equipment made available to current Amiga users to allow them to use software for the CDTV, and have all the capabilities of the CDTV. Someone started a discussion about whether or not the CDTV (or an Amiga with CD ROM hardware) would be able to read IBM or MAC CD ROM discs. Someone else then mentioned that at least one Commodore official said that it should be possible, at least in the case of reading IBM CD ROMs. I would like to carry this discussion still one step further. Should it be possible, with an Amiga 2000 system with both a BridgeCard and the CD ROM hardware, to actually RUN CD ROM based software for IBM (and compatibles)? This would make the Amiga the best, most flexible CD ROM system in the industry if it could. It would also be even better hardware similar to the BridgeCard (minus the IBM slot compatibility hardware) could be made available as an upgrade option for the CDTV, as this would allow the CDTV to be upgraded to both Amiga and IBM compatibility, making the CDTV impossible to beat in upgradeability. I would like to echo one more question: can MAC CD ROM discs be read with the Amiga CD ROM hardware? If it can, this would make it theoretically possible to do the same with MAC CD ROM programs, if ReadySoft could be convinced into making their A-MAX emulator be able to use the Amiga CD ROM hardware in this way. -MB-
