[comp.sys.amiga] Educational Discount

chekmate@athena.mit.edu (Adam Kao) (01/22/88)

Hi.

I have a couple of friends interested in buying Amigas. Does anyone
know if there is an educational discount and what it is?

Thank you for your time.

Adam

I posted this once before, and others have posted similar lists. But
since this is such a hot topic & generates continued interest, here it is again.

How long is the Educational Discount and the buyback going to be effect?
Also, could someone either re-post or send me email the prices for
the Educational Discounts (I could have sworn I had them but they are
nowhere to be found). Thanks

I'm going to buy my 3000 at the end of the month throught the ED plan.
(A friend of mine is going to get the 500 at the same time.) I went to my
local dealer & got the form which now needs to be signed by a "School's
Representative". Who would that be? I go to U.C.Davis.
Has anyone else taken advantage of the ED plan yet? How long does the form
take to process after the signiature. Will there be any special delays for me
since I'm getting the 3000?

Thanks

You may be in for a small disappointment. I ordered an A3000 through the
educational plan; it should be here in about a week. However, the dealer
I went through told me that the educational deal was over on June 30, 1990
(I just barely made it). I don't know if that applies to the A3000 only,
or all Amiga computers.

In the event that it is false, a hoax, or an error, I got my form signed
by the registrar at U.C. Irvine. They have a nice form letter with a UC
stamp and signature. I don't know how long the processing takes. On the
school side, 10 minutes tops. My dealer said things looked good and in the
interest of time, ordered me one without checking everything in with C=.
She DID say that the UC letter was official enough.

As far as delays go, I keep hearing that only the 25MHz version is shipping,
the 16MHz will ship, but not right now. I don't really know when.

I hope this helps (and is correct!)

	Here we go again...!

FALSE FALSE WRONG WRONG RUMOR NO NO FALSE NO WAY BUCKO!!!!

The educational discount plan is ongoing -- it did NOT end June 30.
The only truth about June 30 is:

o	The prices may have changed.
o	You cannot buy peripherals by themselves anymore; you must
buy a CPU or a bundled system along with them.

What are the education deals on the A3000? The most I know about was
up to the A2500/030 package.
I hear the A3000 package will cost as much as the A2500/030 package,
but will not include the 80286 AT bridgeboard.

I got mine signed from the counselor in the ICS department at UC Irvine,
the dealer said that it was fine, but now I begin to wonder...I was told that
a Dean's signature would be better than the registrar's (and since Irvine has
no "dean" of ICS, the counselor was the next best thing...) I didn't realize
that Irvine had a letter. Does anyone think C= will find fault with my form?
(gee, I hope not!)

Also, I turned all my stuff into my dealer about two weeks ago, when should
I receive a confirmation letter from C=??
