[comp.sys.amiga] question on choosing a multisync monitor for A3000

coxc0045@ucselx.sdsu.edu (David Tse) (07/06/90)

I am thinking about purchasing the A3000 but am undecided on the monitor.

1. what are the horizontal and vertical scan freqs for the A3000 during
all the different modes ? 640x200 double scan, 640x400 deinterlaced,
   640x480 non-interlaced, 1280x400, 640x960 both interlaced, on NTSC.
and what will be during PAL mode? and during overscan?
The reason is I need to match/fit all the diff sync freqs to the monitors
   I am comparing.

2. Is there any reason that one wants to see an 15.75 kHz hor. NTSC screen
despite one has deinterlacer in one's A3000? reason is many multisync
monitors on the market start sync from 30kHz to ?kHz hor., do I miss
any usage if I buy one of those? (besides not be able to display on
any other Amiga without the flicker fixer?

3. Commodore A1950 has a switch for overscan and display on the whole screen.
I think that is to disable the auto-sizing. Any popular multisync on the
market cannot fill the screen during overscan, or resizing button not
work right how about problems on interlaced mode?

4. I have in mind many models: each has some advantages.
Sony 1302, 1303: I like their high contrast, may compensate the lack of
contrast in the Amiga video output. also the unique cylindrical screen,
next best to flat screen. dot pitch is rectangular, so .26mm is the shorter
side, best for tv tube, but not for computer. (this part from review on
   a pc magazine).

NEC 2A, 3D : very popular, should be good.

Mitsubitshi 1381 Diamond Scan : only one having composite video input, and
overlay that w/ RGB input. wonder if that composite is only NTSC?

   Panasonic C1381 : 1024x768 interlaced, 800x600 non-interlaced, .28mm dot
   pitch, analog only, 30 - 37kHz hor. ,50-90 Hz vert., price? $445 in a
local dealer. Made in Japan. The look is not as good as the Sony or Nec.
but the screen is quite nice and the price is very good for that high
   spec.

Are there any of above not working very well with A3000? which is the
best choice? does the A3000 and new modes make use of the so called
1024x768 (I understand that these numbers are meaningless in an
   analog mode, especially hor. resolution).

How about the Commodore A1950? is it good?

please e-mail me, if possible.

Thankyou for reading and thanks in advanced for any prospective answer.

happy Amiging,
David
