Hello, I have an Amiga 500 with 1k, an HP Laserjet IIP with 512k - and am using DPaintIII, Professional Page 1.3, and ProWrite 3.0. I am having difficulty getting a professional looking print from any of the above software applications on the laser printer. The text always has jagged edges - even with the smoothing option turned on. I have a friend who uses the same printer with a pc and his text looks great - should I be using a different word processor? I also cannot get more than a half page of graphics to print on the printer - which I usderstand is a memory problem. Will getting more memory speed up the printer at all? (We're talking slooowwwww!). Professional Page also seems to require more ram - is this easy to install myself? I am also interested in PostScript processing. I realize I will need the additional 2k of memory and the PostScript cartridge for the printer, but does the 1.3 os have a printer driver that handles PostScript? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated - thanks in advance - Becky Spellman

I've been reading the Pro Write 3.0 docs...seems that to get resolution approaching the limit of the printer, you should try one of two approaches: 1) Use the options which support the built-in Desk Jet fonts along with graphics (though this will give jaggies on the graphics), or 2) Use the trick mentioned in the section on "Printer Considerations" which basically says "...use a scaling factor of 1/2 with double sized fonts and graphics...or try the same trick with triple sized fonts and graphics..." Since I do not have the manual here, I am not sure exactly what page. Prior to release 3.0, you were required to carefully choose your fonts and then use the smoothing option with at least a density setting of 150 dpi. You may want to experiment with printer preferences...it makes a BIG difference. For the double and triple sized fonts, I would look first at one of the Fred Fish disks that contains fonts generated by Rokiki. I am sure that there are some commercial source as well. Harry Muttart
