I don't get comp.sys.amiga.hardware, and this is pretty general interest.
Being the pround new owner of a 33MHz GVP 68030/68882 board, I decided
to remove my old 68010 from the motherboard and replace it with the
original 68000 (for compatibility reasons). According to the GVP
documentation:
[p.15] "...If you anticipate the need to switch between 68030 mode and
68000 mode frequently you may wish to mount a switch to the
Amiga's rear panel and connect it to J11..."
I've done just that.
Now, my question: Is there any problem with throwing that switch while
the machine is on (and perhaps, actually running)? Obviously, I expect
it to crash the machine, but that's a moot point since I'm aiming to
reboot at that point anyway. The way I see it, "power" is applied at
all times to both the 68000 and the 68030, it's just a matter of
redirecting the data. I had a friend who's done this for about a year
with apparently no ill effects.

RE: 68000/030 switch on GVP boards I used to have such a switch attached, but it was a real UnGood wire- wrap job and it made me nervous, so I took it off. Throwing it with the power on didn't do anything. I notice, though, that the machine was more likely than not to guru on reboot if you did.
