Well I found out some more about the Hard disk package that will be offered by Supra in the next couple of weeks for the a2000. It consists of 1) Supras DMA controller for SCSI type drives 2) a 30M ST506 drive with a 65ms access time (3.5" internal) 3) a SCSI->ST506 adapter that buffers full tracks and encodes/decodes data using RLL encoding. Made by SMS called OmtiController. My feeling is that since your data will be RLL encoded file xfer will seem faster in fact you will be getting a higher "effective" xfer rate, while maintaining the same actual xfer rate as a 2090. Also buffering full tracks will help a lot when files are contiguous. It also means that if someone buys an a2090 and can get ahold of the Omti Controller they can get a faster cheap ST506 type drive and enjoy the same benefits. I am still tending towards the Supra Controller because they still assure me they will support auto boot when it comes out. C Ltd. says they will come out with a 2000 HD soon also but I was not able to get much info from them. Anyone have any comments? -Roger .Signature file captured and being worshipped by Neanderthals living in remote areas of Mongolia.
