Has anyone gotten Imagine, the successor to Turbo Silver, from Impulse yet? It was supposed to be released at the end of May and availableat a reduced price to Turbo Silver owners for the first two months it was on the market. So now one month has passed and I haven't heard from anyone yet as to whether Imagine actually hit the market on time. Can anyone update me on its status? Thanks. --Geoff gpotts@oregon.uoregon.edu

Last I heard the manual was in some stage of being written or edited or printed (flip a 3-sided coin). Last weekend I saw a demo of a Beta version of Imagine at the "Turbo Silver SIG" which meets monthly in Culver City (Los Angeles westside suburb) CA. It looked good but it wasn't done yet and was only part of the editing environment, the animation and rendering stuff hadn't gone in yet. BTW, the Turbo Silver SIG Newsletter is a 2-pager monthly and is available to anyone who wants to send $8 to Victor Osaka, 1341 Ocean Ave. #349, Santa Monica, CA 90401. The SIG was his idea and he runs each meeting. There are also, so far, two member disks and one member object-disk available and the newsletter provides the details wrt price and contents. Victor's also written a book called "A Beginner's Journey in Turbo Silver" which he sells for $18.00 plus $2.00 packing/shipping sent to him at the same address as above. The book's 3-hole punched and printed to fit into your Turbo Silver binder. From what I understand Victor has NO plans to nationally distribute his book thru dealers or distributors, perferring to sell it only via mail order. Dunno why. Anyway I know you didn't ask about anything but Imagine but since I was "here" I thought I'd toss in a plug for the SIG as well. Harv People/Link: CBM*HARV

This gets us right to the point of needing a bigger floppy drive or a CBM/AmigaOS2 supported way of splitting files across floppy volumes; a 24bit morerows NTSC picture won't fit on a floppy uncompressed, probably, if it is PAL, certainly, and may not fit compressed, depending on detail in the picture. 880K is starting to squeek a bit, Ami needs new shoes! ;-) A 5-10 Mbyte floppy would be about right; I have disks now that only hold two to half a dozen pictures. Any such thing in sight? Kent, the man from xanth. <xanthian@Zorch.SF-Bay.ORG> <xanthian@well.sf.ca.us>

I have heard on the grapevine here in Australia that a German manufacturer will *VERY* soon (Jan 91 seems likely) be releasing the first in a line of high density 3.5" disks. The first of these releases is a 4meg version. The 20meg version has been withheld, not through lack of development but the company is not sure that the world is quite ready for a 20meg 3.5" disk yet and they believe that if people are given the time to adjust to a 4meg version and it takes off, then the opening price for the 20meg version will be spectacular.

Any such thing in sight? Yup, they're called hard drives. There's one beastie out there that has removable cartridges, so you can take you pictures with ya without having to take your whole machine along (even tho we know you don't mind hauling your system all over the place anyway :-) But I can't remember the name of the drive. It was pretty nice though. I saw it at our local dealers. I have also heard of floptical drives. They are normal floppies that have a laser etched track to allow greater precision in reading and writing in a special floptical drive. They are supposed to hold around 10 Meg per floppy. But unfortunately there is no version for the Amiga yet. -- John Sparks | | D.I.S.K. 24hrs 2400bps. sparks@corpane.UUCP | | PH: (502) 968-DISK A door is what a dog is perpetually on the wrong side of. - Ogden Nash

I think you can get 100 meg syquest drives for the Mac (SCSI). There are also Bernouli drives that are more robust but also more expensive. I am tempted to get one of the 40 meg Syquests since getting more "disk" space will only cost $100 plus backups become a breeze...a least of your "normal" HD. ^ ^ -- Darren NT Note: It's probably obvious but these drives are slower than your typical 40 meg HD (possibly not the ultra slow Seagate ones ;-). This will probably affect your playback rate. I believe that Bernouli drives are faster but we never bought any so I have no idea... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- // | Nigel Tzeng - STX Inc - NASA/GSFC COBE Project \X/ | xrtnt@amarna.gsfc.nasa.gov | Amiga | Standard Disclaimer Applies: The opinions expressed are my own.
