[comp.sys.amiga] What fun is there in 2.0??

I asked Randall Jesup about that in late June. He thought long and
hard about his answer before responding something like "Well, you won't
find anybody's digitized pictures in there." He indicated that they
had to go on a space hunt to get everything to fit into 512k and that
the emphasis had been on getting the code correct. I got the impression
that it wouldn't be worth it to look for such things until C= ships
ROMs. However, if space is available there could very well be an
"Easter egg" or two in the final version. I was very careful not to
ask where to look (that would be cheating), only if it might be worth
one's while.

Yes, Cameron, we all remember those unique messages left there in the
Workbench for us by those guru's at C=A in the mid 80's. If I
recall, you could get them by going to WB and holding down the
control key, both shify keys and both mouse keys and pressing '1', all
done simultaneously. You could get a variety of messages by changing
the '1' to 2,3,4,5,6 and I think that's as far as it went.

As for the 3000, I am pretty sure cute little messages will exist but
the 3000 project doesn't hail a new era in computing as did the old
1000 and I guess we miss out on some of the zest and interest put
into the ol' 1000. I suppose you could talk to someone at C= and ask
but don't hold your breath waiting for an answer. C= are an extremely
stuffed company who need to get their derriers into gear or they'll
flake out...

About a year after the original A1000 was released all sorts of interesting
things were found inside the Workbench. I'm sure you all remember the gist of
these messages. I can't remember any of them now,
but at the time it was things like that that gave me a smile, and made me
feel that my Amy had been built by people who enjoyed their work, and gave
the machine some character.

Now I'm sure all those who have worked on the A3000 and WB2.0 have been
equally dedicated, and probably have enjoyed themselves in some way, but
has the great god CORPORATION stilted your personalities as artists? Or
are there 'signatures', hidden messages, and things in this new stuff as well?

Has anybody found anything? OR perhaps there is somebody at Commodore who
is willing to tell something (er, anything....) Nothing like a bit of
lighthearted crap to keep life in perspective..

In order to allow such things to ever see the light of consumer day, it
would probably be best if such messages were NOT revealed until such time as
everything is irrevocably committed to ROM. If CBM KNEW about any fun stuff in
there I'm sure they would do their best to REMOVE it.
