[comp.sys.amiga] DeskJet Help

davemad@pnet01.cts.com (Dave Madsen) (07/17/90)

Being a fairly new user of both Amiga software and a HP Deskjet, I
seem to be having a few problems with the printing of some programs.
It seems that most of the GoldDisk software (ProPage, PageSetterII,
ProDraw, etc.) improperly handles the hardware margins that the DeskJet
has. For instance, if I were to draw a box at a point one inch
from the top and one inch from the left (using the ruler guides in any
of the previously mentioned programs), it would print out approximately
1.5 inch from the top and 1.25 inch from the left. If I were to try and
print that same page again, it would be offset even more to the right
and down and would continue to print further to the right and down in any
additional pages I had. Now, if I reset the printer between EVERY page of
EVERY document, I can keep the offset at 1.5 from the top and 1.25 from the
right. If I THEN move EVERYTHING on EVERY page up 0.5 inch and to the
right 0.25 inch, I can keep the page at the position it is supposed to be at.
However, I think this is a REAL BIG pain in the butt that I shouldn't
have to go through in the first place. After reading a message on the net
about a possible fix for the use of a DeskJet with PageSetterII, and since
mail to the original poster bounces, I thought I would put out a plea for
help so I might get my hands on such a fix. Any comments/tips/suggestions
would be appreciated, thanks!

If I remember correctly, the DeskJet has some of the same limitations as
many laser printers: it can't print clear to the edge of the page. If
you read through the documentation for the DeskJet (I haven't, but this
information is included in the LaserJet documentation, if I remember
correctly) you should find a reference to the 0.5 and 0.25 inch offsets.

Take this with a grain of salt, as it is all from memory. The documentation
is not sitting in front of me.
