[comp.sys.amiga] OCR for Amiga, is there any?

jmc@inesc.UUCP (Miguel Casteleiro) (07/21/90)

The subject says it all! I'm interest in an Optical Character Reader (OCR)
for the Amiga. If you know if there is any, then please email me or post it.
Thank You.

P.S.: For those who dont know what is an OCR, then here is a description:
An OCR is a software or a software/hardware package that produces an ASCII
text from a digitized image of a written text. It's the inverse of the
printing process.

Yes, there is one I know (and use). It's delivered with the Professional
Scanner by PrintTechnik (Germany). The scanner is a 600dpi machine (I have
5 megs and still can't scan anything larger that a stamp with 600 dpi :-).
Unfortunately, the rest of the Scanner controlling software is a piece of
sh*t (sorry). You can do nearly nothing except click on the SCAN button and
adjust the size of the paper you want to scan. No pre-scan, no Zoom,
nothing. As for the OCR: It works, the teaching is o.k., but forget it for
any typeface smaller than a normal computer print. Even with documents with
this size, you have to correct about 6 of 10 words manually afterwards.
