The subject says it all. I have the following system: Amiga 2500/20 Workbench 1.3 2 Internal 3 1/2" drives ECE MIDI Interface (W/Pass-thru) Roland D-10 Synth Bars & Pipes Sequencer Now for the problem: There is no output on the midi lines. The software, synth, and interface works fine straight out of the box on an Amiga 500 with Workbench/ROM 1.3, but on my 2500 there is no output whatsoever on the midi cables (Checked with a MIDI tester). I have tried new CIA's, removing the 2620 board, removing the 2090a (Throwing it out a window :-) but with no success. Now here's the kicker - My modem works fine plugged into the pass-thru of the MIDI interface. Does anyone have any clue as to reasons for MIDI not working?

Are you sure that you aren't doing something >really< simple like switching the switch that controls passthru/MIDI? My Dr. T's has a big, white button on its front to change between sending signals out the back (rs232 passthru) or out to the MIDI bus. I've forgotten to switch it back quite a few times after a long session of telecom, only to confuse my modem into submission with all those MIDI packets ;) John Dormer BIX: j.dormer Internet: dormer@medusa.cs.purdue.edu

Unfortunately it doesn't seem that a mere button in the wrong position is the problem. To all who have sent mail - Thanks for the suggestions on checking the power on the serial port (I'll check that in a day or so when I have access to the necessary tools) but the interface does work. It has been tried on an Amiga 500 and it worked fine. I have had the serial port itself replaced due to a bent pin (Pin 2 to be exact) but otherwise there have been no problems. (A side note - When the 2500-ECE-D10 setup was tested with a midi tester [For lack of a better or technical name] there was NOTHING. Not even power. The 500-ECE-D10 setup showed full operation.)

I had a similar problem and traced it to a "weak" RS-232 driver chip. Try some other midi software first, surprisingly, a weak chip causes some software to break on MIDI, but not all. DMCS worked with the weak chip. Replacing that chip cured all ills. If you are a tech, place scope leads on input and output of RS-232 driver to verify. Terry LaGrone "Mixing audio, video and ideas"\
