[comp.sys.amiga] makeanim format?

Where can I get a description of the format for anim files (as in 
makeanim, showanim) v 5.4? Or how about the source code for a program
which makes them? I am short on memory and disk space and I would like 
to delegate the grunt work of animation building to either a Sun or to 
MS-Dos machines, so a poratable, legally useable makeanim is perfect.
