[comp.sys.amiga] Mac or Amiga as video editing controller

langz@prodigal.Eng.Sun.COM (Lang Zerner) (07/25/90)

Some friends and I will soon acquire a Hi-8 camcorder to do some video
projects. At this point we are just fooling around, but we are buying a
decent camera in anticipation of the possibility that we will get a little
deeper into post-production issues.

I owned an Amiga a couple of years ago, so I know there are some decent vidoe
post-production systems for it, but as we already have a Mac II in the house,
I figured I'd see if it is possible to set up a Mac-based editing system for
less than the cost of buying a new Amiga and editing system.

We aren't looking for a vidoe digitizer Capturing individual frames is not
particularly important (though we may do some work involving this). What we
need is a system for doing A/B synchronization and editing so that we can
take different video sources (e.g. consecutive scenes in a video
documentary), use the system to browse through the footage and mark switch
points, then let the system control an editing deck to record the scenes and
switch from one video source to another at the marked points.

For volume reasons, I don't normally read comp.sys.amiga or comp.sys.mac, so
I'd appreciate it if you could send me e-mail directly on this one: What
technology is currently available for either the Mac or the Amiga to turn
them into video editing systems? Company contact information would be a big
bonus, so I can get specs and feature sheets.

Thanks much,
