Being Canadian, I have avoided getting involved in this discussion for fear of seeming partisan, but someone mentioned the McGarrigle sisters, and I feel I should give their last album a strong plug. I believe it's called "Over and Over". It's basically an acoustic album with a folky feel. I guess you could compare it to the Roches' work, but the McGarrigles write more subtly and deftly (nothing against the Roches, mind you). Consequently, it takes a couple of listens to be taken with it. I think anyone who likes Richard and Linda Thompson in their quieter numbers will love the McGarrigles. And by the way, RT is a truly fine guitarist who happily won't find himself embroiled in some stupid comparison with Robert Fripp or Steve Hackett or Al DiMeola.
