I can see voting for Who's Next (or whatever) over any silly Led Zep album. Now, I like Zep as much as the next guy, but your average 1950's Bill Haley and the Comets album has better fidelity. Get the compact discs of Led Zep IV and Who's Next and use the ears that God gave you. At worst, Who's Next at least has the ambience of having more than $4.09 spent on it for recording tape. You can tell that the A&R development people, the producers, and the engineers were told to do a proper job of capturing the music. On the other hand, early Zep albums (even Original Master Recordings) sound like crap from a technical standpoint. Don't give me that whining snotty crap about "well, the crudity of the recording is part of the genre'" for even one second. There is no excuse for the levels of hiss, modulation noise, and hum which are present on the Zep 4 compact disc or album. Dolby "A" was available right down the street.... FOR ME, at least, having a recording which doesn't have a blanket of hiss around every percussion note, severe clipping on the vocals and generally large amounts of IM and THD thrown in is important to the enjoyment of reproduced music. For this reason, The Who wins in my book... David Anthony CDE DataSpan, Inc (P.S. AM will rise again!!!)
