I've installed Matt's UUCP 1.06D on a A500. I currently have a direct connect to a Unix box at 9600 baud. I've constructed a NULL modem adapters with pins 2 & 3 switched and pin 7 straight through for a total of 3 active pins. I can log on to the Unix box using VLT with no problem but when I attempt to 'uucico -r1 -x9 -o -Sfoobar' on the A500 nothing happens. I do have stuff queued up for the machine by 'dmail foobar!root'. The L.sys entry is: foobar Any SER: 9600 5555555 "" \d\r\d\c ogin: uucp sword: uucp I can invoke uucp by logging in as uucp on the Unix box using VLT. I do get the message: shere=foobar I've read the docs but no mention of how to handle a direct UUCP connection. On Unix machines, it's pretty straightforward. I even tried replacing the L.sys phone number using a '-' as per Unix machine. No go. So my problem is that when uucico goes to debug mode at level 9, I see what's happening but the no login response from the Unix box. Appreciate any help. -- jose@hpsad.hp.com

jose@hpsad.HP.COM (Jose Gomez-Rubio (SEED Student)) in <730007@hpsad.HP.COM> writes about problems direct-connecting an Amiga running Matt's UUCP 1.06D with a UNIX box. True. The Amiga UUCP package assumes a modem connection ONLY. The trick I used at the FAUG demo I gave earlier this year was to connect the Amiga via RS-232 to a StarLAN terminal server box which more-or-less resembles a modem, patch the Amiga's uucico to send two CR's (for autobaud on the StarLAN box) instead of "ATDT", and change /etc/issue on the UNIX box to have "CONNECT" as its first line ... these kludges faked-out AmigaUUCP so that it thought it was talking to a modem. Sheesh. The other solutions are to either rewrite the dial stuff in AmigaUUCP or to run standard UUCP on Amiga UNIX. Thad Floryan [ thad@cup.portal.com (OR) ..!sun!portal!cup.portal.com!thad ]
