It disables fastRAM through a warm boot. Less memory -- Works Great!] ********* From barrett@crabcake.cs.jhu.edu Tue Jul 31 23:03:30 1990 There is indeed a fix for Archon to work with expanded memory. You can get it via anonymous ftp from: abcfd20.larc.nasa.gov [128.155.23.64] I think it's in the directory /amiga or /incoming/amiga. It's called "fixarchon.zoo" or something like that. I've used it successfully. Works with many protected disks. I used it on Archon myself, with fine results. And Thanks!) I opted not to use it because it modified the disk itself. However, if you want it send me some email and I'll send you some email. (It's fairly long, so I don't want to post it). >And perhaps descibe the fix that finally worked for you ( hopefully ). See way above. I use Chris's nifty program. It doesn't modify the disk, and it does the job just fine. The only other one I looked at was MegaBoot. If you find a better solution, I would appreciate it if you sent me some email. >I have an Amiga 2000, and have tried several times to get Archon to run. >I've fond memories of playing this game on a friends Amy 1000, and still >consider it one of the best Amiga games I've seen. I was suprised at the quality of this program, considering it's age. Graphics are reasonable, sounds are good and sometimes excellent, and they went to the trouble to put in little things, like when you fire a shot in the combat arena from one end to the other the sound effect goes from one speaker to the other. Also, the combat is an order of magnitude improvement over the C-64's combat. It is far and above most modern games, especially games for the Amy. (Of course, I always liked the Sword of Fargoal, so maybe my opinions don't count ;-). > >I'm at a loss why E Arts won't issue a working re-release. It certainly >would beat BattleChess hands-down. Oh, I don't know. I like them for different reasons, although Archon gets a lot more use than BC on my system. Maybe EA should spiff up Archon and MULE and maybe a few others and release them on an 'EA Classics' disk or something. Was there ever an Archon III planned??? Enjoy! >-- > David P.M.
