[comp.sys.amiga] Problems with Fish disk #265 & 266?

IO91461@MAINE.BITNET (Tom Nezwek) (08/10/90)

Has anyone had trouble with the Fred fish disks numbers 265 & 266?
This is that Second place animation winner called Vaux-Killer...
I've tried running it from floppy as well as HD (making the appropiate
assignments- I think)... Anyhow this animation seems to keep coming up
with a 'nothing to play' error after about 3 minutes of loading many files
in.. So what's the deal here. Fred fish's comments on assignments are a
little mis-leading and his disks (these 2) don't seem to work either..

Any help or ideas would be appreciated..
                          -Thanks
                            -Tom Nezwek

I've had the same problem. Every time I try to run it, I get the message
to press a key when the screen turns white, but then nothing else happens.
I've been meaning to FTP it from somewhere, but haven't gotten around to it
yet.
On the subject of FTP sites, I've been looking at the GIF-to-IFF packages,
and they all seem to use HAM or SHAM exclusively. Some of the GIF pictures
(Basselope comes to mind) would look just fine in ExtraHalfBrite mode or lower.
Am I misreading the documentation, or are all of the converter programs HAM
only?

Vaux-Killer does work. Allow me to give you some tips as to what I
did to get it working, and what problems I had along the way:

First, the demo *MUNCHES* memory. I assume you have enough RAM to
run it? I believe 2 megs is the minimum. I have 3 and it runs fine.

Second, I entirely redid Fred's assigns. I put everything in one
directory on my harddrive and changed the assigns so that TVKD1:
and TVKD2: both point to that directory.

When the player gets to the white screen, the player window must
be activated for the P key to start the demo. If you're running
a mouse accelerator such as dMouse, it will usually activate
the window it is on, which isn't the player window. Move the
pointer to the top of the screen to activate the window then
hit P.

I hope this answers the questions. It's a rather cute demo!
