[comp.sys.amiga] ANIM files

n350bq@tamuts.tamu.edu (Duane Fields) (08/08/90)

I need a way to chop the extra (last) frame off of a Deluxe-paint III anim file.
Supposedly there is a PD prg out there that lets you insert/remove from from
an anim file. The specific problem is this: I need an anim (of a clock) to run
from start to finish and that is it, I called EA and they say the Dpaint assumes
the animation to be cyclic and takes frame #1 on to the end. HELP!

In my expierience, DPIII actually saves the FIRST 2 pictures last (again).
So you need to chop the last two FORMs off. Just take a good editor, load the
anim into MEM (you need quite a bit of mem to do that, but read to end anyway),
search for the second last FORM, then cut everything below and including
that FORM. (My friend has 5MEG, and my anims are never that long, so
I use his machine :->). OR...wait a bit and I'll write you a small util
that cuts off all useless anims at the end of DPIII anims.

NOTE!!!! A DPIII ANIM with less FORMs then originally saved will NOT load
in DPIII, 'cause the size is incorrect. Check comp.binaries.amiga for my
ANIM-5 Player... It will eat anything... A Utility that uts the last
two frames away from an ANIM must RE-BUILD the ANIM, so the size is properly
set (after the FORMANIM, in the header), and that's what I could do, if I feel
like it...

Did you try turning off the "LOOP" button in the anim requester and then saving
it?

These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you.

Hmm..seems odd. I routinely create anims with DpaintIII that start and stop
where I want them. Don't you have Dpaint III. If you do, you should just
make sure you start the anim from frame #1 (usning the 2 key to advance to
frame #1) and it will end on frame #30 or whatever your ending frame number
is. I usually run my Dpaint anims from Dpaint as I can control what frame I
want to start from and such easily. All of this pertains to playback using
Dpaint III. If you are using showanim or someother anim shower, then you may
have some difficulty. Your best bet is to just use Dpaint III.

I'm not sure how this would affect the showing of an anim in another package
such as AmigaVision however. I will check it out and see what I can come up
with.
