I am interested in getting a home computer. I've been intrigued by the Amiga from reading magazines for well over a year now. The Amiga appears to be a good machine for the types of things I want to do: play games, do some programming, run business applications, run educational programs for my kids, get into MIDI, and embellish my home movies. My concern is the lack of Amigas out here in the world. No one I associate with has one. I'm new to netnews (been reading 1 week), and even mail-order seems to be shaky. There used to be a dealer relatively close to me, but they have since discontinued Amigas. I recently visited the next closest dealer, and I was real discouraged by their "salesmanship". The only thing they demoed was the A3000 demo. Other than that, I think I knew more about the machine than they did. In fact, they didn't even have any literature to give me. I'm interested only in the A3000 (may as well start with current stuff, since I'll have this for a while). However, I've noticed that now I can get an IBM clone for $2600 that includes Windows 3.0, 4MB of RAM, and a 65MB hard disk, plus color monitor. My questions are as follows: 1. Do you recommend an Amiga over a PC for home use? 2. If so, where should I buy one (by the way, I live 15 miles from Briwall). 3. How does one keep up to date on what are good products to buy? It seems like every PC mag. is always rating the top spreadsheets, word processors, etc? 4. Does anyone know of a user's group in my area (Allentown, PA)? Thanks for any advice you can give. Since this topic has probably been discussed many times, it would probably be best to reply via e-mail. Paul Bidwell (AT&T Bell Labs) p.bidwell@att.com
