Could I get some suggestions, please?
I just got a hd for my A500 (80MB Seagate w/ Trumpcard 500 controller),
and would like some recommendations for sw. (I feel uncomfortable w/o
backups, and like compressors/archivers for my googelplex of files :)
1) I would like some recommendations on software (pd, shareware, "payware," :)
whatever):
HD Backup utility - one that utilizes all floppy space
HD Optimization program (defragmenter) & other utilities
(I've used DSBACKUP and Norton's Utilities, specifically Speed Disk,
on Insignificant B.s. Machines, and like them.)
2) Where can I get LHARC(?) and PKAZIP ?
(Are PKAZIP files compatible with the ibm's PKZIP ".ZIP"
files? (It would just be nice, since I'd like to xfer some data file
archives, some very BIG and hairy multi-megabyte archives...))
3) WIERD annoyance with the HD: Anybody know what's causing this??
My hardware: A500, WB1.2, 80MB hd in two 40MB partitions, DH0:, and
DH1:, A501 memory expansion.
Unpredictably, every few days or so, when the Amiga goes to MOUNT
DH0: (while booting from floppy), the "drive active" light blinks
rapidly and freezes the computer.
After 3 or 4 minutes, it stops, and loading continues as normal.
I've manually gone through the MOUNTing, and DH1: will mount fine.
When I try MOUNTing DH0:, all tasks freeze up, and the light blinks.
Wierd? Yes. I hope that it's not fatal, but it does make me worry
about losing files that aren't backed up (like about 30MB currently)!!!
