[comp.sys.amiga] spiders and crabs

scot@amigash.UUCP (Scot L. Harris) (08/18/90)

The spiders and crabs programs recently posted to comp.sources.amiga cause
a solid lockup followed by a guru when rebooting. Here is the guru number
and information I could gather on it:

DH0(40MB):> guru 82011234
    Alert Type: DEADEND
  Generated by: Graphics Library
 General Cause: Insufficient memory
Specific Cause: Emergency memory not available

Has anybody else experienced this problem, or better yet, have a fix for it?
The programs sound like good candidates for my hacks directory.

Thanks.

Spiders and Crabs both run fine on my A3000 under 1.3.

Could be an interaction with another program you are running.

	RE Crabs and Spiders gurus

Haven't run Spiders, but Crabs gave me the exact same Guru when
run from the Workbench, and a #4 (illegal instruction) when run from WShell.
I had chalked it up to my 68030 and gave up...

<line eater????>
well Crabs crashes my stock 500 (1meg CBM 100%)
i don't got the #### but it is a Big Red GURU.
Spiders works fine but the machine still seems slow after i quit the
program.

Don't bet on it being your 68030. I have a 68000, and Crabs
crashes with a #3 (illegal address?) guru when I run it from the
Workbench. I haven't tried running it from WShell. On the other claw,
Spiders seems to run with no problem. Kinda cute, actually.

I wote both crabs and spiders on a standard amiga under 1.3, I
never looked to the possibility of it running on a 68030 machine
If you know how to compile it on your machine I suggest you do

In Australia, Real Men don't drink Spiders and don't catch crabs.

The Crabs program was written (by me) on a 1meg machine, I posted it
to the network so others can take a look, Please note, I live in australia
and as such am using PAL machines. I wonder if this could be the cause.
I'll take a relook at the code when I next get so time.

I've had no problems with either. My system: Std. B2000, PAL, GVP hardcard+2
non-fat Agnus (agnes,angus..), one floppy, usual background stuff like
VirusX... Could it be a problem with NTSC systems ?
