                             The 1984 UniForum Conference


                         USENIX Association Pre-announcement

        UNIFORUM is the conference  and  exhibition  of  the  UNIX*  community
        presented  by  /usr/group  and co-sponsored by the USENIX Association.
        There will be two concurrent programs - one programmed by  /usr/group,
        the other by the USENIX Association.


            DATES:             Tuesday through Friday, January 17-20, 1984.

            VENDOR EXHIBITION: Tuesday through through Thursday

                               To date, 107 vendors, reserving 260 booth spaces
                               have already been contracted to exhibit.

                               Since attendance is expected to EXCEED 2000
                               persons, you are advised to contact the hotel

        UNIFORUM is the conference  and  exhibition  of  the  UNIX*  community
        presented  by  /usr/group  and co-sponsored by the USENIX Association.
        There will be two concurrent programs - one programmed by  /usr/group,
        the other by USENIX. This is a call for papers for the USENIX program.
        This is a call for papers for the USENIX program.

        Papers should be technical in nature and of  interest  to  the  USENIX
        community.  Talks presented at previous meetings will not be accepted.
        Suggested topic areas include but are by no means limited to:

             Systems - kernel enhancements, ports to new  machines,  networks,
                      optimizations,  performance issues, real time mods, dis-
                      tributed processing, ...

             Programming tools and  environments  -  editors,  utilities,  new
                      languages  and  reports  on  developments in established
                      languages, etc.

             Applications - database systems,  graphics,  mail  systems,  real
                      time projects, etc.

             UNIX issues - trends and/or directions in the UNIX  world,  stan-
                      dards, security, etc.


             Authors must submit an abstract of at least  250  words  and  not
        more  than  1000  words.  Abstracts will be included in the program of
        the conference and papers in the Proceedings.  Papers will  be  chosen
        from these abstracts. Abstracts must include the following:

                            Title
                            Name of Author
                            Institution or Company
                            Mailing address (U.S. Mail and network)
                            Telephone number
                            Audio-visual requirements.

                         The 1984 Winter UniForum Conference
                          Announcement and Call For Papers

               The 1984  Winter  conference  sponsored  by  /usr/group  and
          USENIX will be held in Washington D.C. January 17-20, 1984 at the
          Washington Hilton. Conference arrangements are being  handled  by
          Pemco Inc. (800) 323-5155.
               There will be two concurrent  programs;  one  programmed  by
          /usr/group,  the  other  by USENIX. This is a call for papers for
          the USENIX program.
