Thanks to all the people who have responded to my tale of Hard Drive woes so far. I have tried several of your suggestions and am in the middle of several more. Nothing has worked yet, but my fingers are crossed!! Just as an update, some further data has come to light: The problems seem to show up in the last partition of the drive. The previous partitions appear untouched when the last one gets trashed. I'll need some more tests to verify this, but in the meantime I have inserted a dummy partition at the end of the drive (size 1M) to see if I can isolate the problem. Another item I have been wondering about: when PREP is running I have to specify a user-defined drive since my drive isn't a standard one. I always get asked for a "Write pre-comp cylinder" number. I always use the default, but can someone explain what this is asking me for? Should I be specifying the last cylinder on the drive, or the cylinder after the last in the first partition? Keep those cards and letters coming in hard drive fans. I'll be posting a summary when the problem is solved (hopefully "real soon now"). -- Kevin Picott aka Socrates aka kpicott%alias@csri.toronto.edu Alias Research Inc. 110 Richmond St. E.
