If there are links involved, you are probably out of luck. Links aren't in
Amigados until 2.0, and even then, they may only be hard links. Certainly, and
tar program will not assume it can use links.

My best suggestion would be to extract the tar on your Sun, and re-tar it after
making any links into dummy files or empty dirs, as the case may be, then to
transfer it back to your Amiga.

I downloaded a HUGE tar file recently and can't seem to decode it - I tried
portar from FF~2, TarSplit from FF~150, and tar from ff??, but none seem to
work (either GURU or fail "can't handle links"). The tar file decodes fine
on the SUN at work. Anyone have a working version of TAR for the Amiga?

Thanks in advance!

I had some trouble lately with TAR... the file I created on our Apollo WS'
wouldn't unpack as new directories weren't listed in the archive, but only
used... TAR created multiple directories of the same name (I don't know how
that worked... must have been a bug in 2.0 and 1.3), and tarsplit wouldn't
create the dirs, so it couldn't create the files.

If you send me a short tar-file (consists of 2 links or so...), I'll try to
addapt my modificated source to your problem...
(If you do send it, please do to: garry@DGIHRZ01.BITNET)
