[comp.sys.amiga] Some thoughts on The state of the Amiga

lindwall@beowulf.ucsd.edu (John Lindwall) (09/13/90)

I have some observations to share after a visit to a local dealer.
(Keep listening, this is not a gripe posting -- quite the reverse).

This particular dealer is one of the newer ones in San Diego, and
I left the place feeling a great excitement and optimism. The place
has a professional appearance and staff. (Contrary to most other
Amiga dealers I've visited). They had the full range of Amiga systems
on display (A500/A2000/A2500/A3000 -- okay, they had no A1000 :) )
Oh yeah, they also had the C= PClones.

They had lots of hardware and software; some items were there for sale
which I had not thought released yet. For example,
        o AmigaVision
        o ArcNet boards (from C=)
        o EtherNet boards (from C=)

I am very impressed with C='s efforts to upgrade its image. One aspect of this
that stands out is in their printed material. The AmigaVision manual is very
nice, as are the new A3000 manual sets (Finally CLI commands documented!).
A large collection of application-specific Amiga brochures was on hand.
Even the educational discount application was very professional (with
glossy informational flyers and price lists, etc).

Perhaps I am lucky to have had such a good experience at a C= dealer.
I left thinking "Finally I've found an Amiga dealer which I would not
be embarrassed to take my IBM/Mac cohorts to visit".

I am not affiliated with this dealer in any way, other then the fact that
I am a customer (Love my new A10 speakers!). The dealer is The Lively
Computer in San Diego, CA (well, El Cajon).

The only sour note to the experience : I learned that the TCP/IP software
for the Ethernet card is not available yet. Oh well ...
