Oh folks, here's your chance to give me your views on purchasing an A3000 using Commodore's Educational Discount Program. I currently have an A1000 with 1.5 meg and 2 floppy drives. I am interested in such applications as Deluxe Paint III, Deluxe Video II, telecommunications and exploring the new AmigaVision. I know it's a super machine, so what I need to know is the answer to a couple of questions. First, are the current units shipping WITH AmigaVision or will I get some kind of certificate? Second, will the ROM chip for 2.0 be provided free of charge at some later date and how will the current version of the 3000 differ from those once the ROM becomes available? I understand there is now some RAM used to hold 2.0 and this is what the ROM will replace, correct? Third, how much of the new ECS does the 3000 have? I've moved recently and just got back my UseNEt feed so I missed several hundred messages in the past few months. Last, what is the current status of the sales tax question? The form only talks to certain states, does anyone know if Colorado still has to collect taxes even though they are not one of those listed? I lied, just one more, is there any reason for anyone who likes the Amiga not to buy an A3000 at this point? I keep seeing references to over-priced, etc., but compared to the original retail price of the A1000, the educational pricing available today certainly makes things a lot easier to afford. That's it unless you just want to spill your guts and give me any other info you think I might find useful. For anyone in this area, I'm dealing with Citadel Computers, Colorado Springs. When the new ROM is available, it will be made available to everybody who purchased a system prior to it being available. (That is the answer to the marketing side of the question, I'll let one of my colleagues in Engineering respond to the technical side.) >Third, how much of the new ECS does the 3000 have? I actually think I can answer this one, but again I will defer to Engineering, since I would be concerned if they tried to respond to marketing questions!! >Last, what is the current status of the sales tax question? The form only >talks to certain states, does anyone know if Colorado still has to collect >taxes even though they are not one of those listed? No taxes are collected with an Educational order in Colorado. >I lied, just one more, is there any reason for anyone who likes the Amiga >not to buy an A3000 at this point? I am clearly biased, so I will let somebody else respond to this one. (otherwise, I'd say something like OVERPRICED!!! I purchased a 3000 on educational discount that arrived two weeks ago, replete with a certified AmigaVision certificate. I would be very disappointed if I missed out on this; I was looking forward to using the software. Are they just having development problems? AmigaVision went into the A3000 and A2000 series about the beginning of this month (September). You received one that was built before that and got the card. Send the card in and you should get AmigaVision back in about 4 to 6 weeks. >Are they just having development problems? (I love the "please allow 4-46 >weeks for delivery" notice) We did have some problems exterminating some of the bugs we found. But these have now been solved. You got one of the original cards. For some of the people who bought their A3000 early this may be true. ;-) >| Dave Donat Karl Herrmann C.A.T.S. Software Specialist
