I thought that perhaps some other folks out there would be interested in the final results of my: "QUEST FOR A CHEAP 2400 BAUD MODEM!" The way it worked out was this; after combing computer magazines, bulletin boards, e-mail tips, etc., I opened up a MacWorld. In the rear of the magazine, I found: 1-800-MAC-STUF It's a mail-order place in Texas. They have 2400 baud modems for $69 + $10 s&h. It took approximately 15 days for the modem to get shipped to me, and so far I've logged about 48 hours usage on it with no flakey behavior(on the part of the modem) of any sort. It's the usual 100% Hayes compatible, switchable between 2400-1200-300(yuck) baud, offers "permanent" memory of three 32digit phone #'s, and so on and so on. I believe the brand name to be Cork. It's about the size of a thick paperback book, and comes with a power cube and a phone cord for the wall connection. If anyone's had problems with this modem/company, please feel free to contradict me, I can only report on my one subjective viewpoint. --S. Delahunty P.S. This is NOT an advertisement! I'm just trying to help other impoverished Amiga owners find a decent price for a peripheral. ------------------------------------------------ /// /// /// "I know I'm poor because my Amiga is beige, /// has a keyboard garage, and still asks me \\\ /// for Kickstart when I boot up." \\\/// \\// \/ ------------------------------------------------
