[comp.sys.amiga] AMAX-II

Has AMAX-II come out yet? Has anyone seen it? What SCSI controllers are
compatible with AMAXII? I have the WORDSYNC (Supra2000).

Hi,

Well, I have AMAX - I, and I suppose the amax-II would definetaly not be
slower. I tested it's speed against several MACS at school.
It is exactly as fast as the MAC SE.
So faster than MAC PLUS, or MAC 512, or MAC 128
but slower then MAC II etc. (all the expensive stuff)
Then I also wrote a program to particularly measute disk access and read time,
and screen output times.
I had a 5000 character file that I read from disk and than displayed.
The Diskreading was most of the time exactly the same, but once in a while,
it was 10% slower. On average this added up to 97% performance.
(I must say, that disk's were not optimized, and that it is verry well possible,
that one head(amigas) had to move to more tracks than the MAC.
But this was too hard to track down for this service.;/
Anyway, Screen output was about 10% FASTER!!!!
Although it could vary between 9% and 11% depending on what screen is used.
(Paged, MAC size is fastest, interlace amigasize is slowest)

Comparing more advanced machines gets really hard, considering
the MAC II has a 68020, and can have optionally:
PMMU, sound chip, 68881. and I believe also different frequencies.
By the way, the fastest mac is the MAC SE/30 (except for FX offcourse)
It would be interesting to test thatone against the 3000!
(MAX II CI, CX ETC, are nice and color and expensive, but slower than SE/30)
