On the subject of 24-bit video: I saw an article in the September issue of Amazing Computing about the Firecracker24 card from Impulse (the folks who brought you "Turbo-Silver"). No price or release date was listed. The Firecracker24 is a 24-bit video card that plugs into the Amiga. What struck me as really interesting is that you do _NOT_ need a separate monitor to see the 24-bit display. The Firecracker24 card displays to your Amiga monitor by genlocking its signal with the Amiga's. Wherever there is color register 0, the Amiga display is replaced by the Firecracker display. This presents a nice compromise between compatiblity and expandability. An application could open a Custom screen, using Intuition for gadgets, menus, mouse control, etc., but render the 24 bit data to the Firecracker board, which would be displayed on screen. (Will the genlocked screen "drag down" with the custom screen? I don't know.) So take heart, 24bit video is coming! Disclaimer: I don't know how accurate this info is, because: A) I am quoting this from memory; B) I am not am employee of either Amazing Computing or Impulse; Lee Willis email: Lee_Robert_Willis@cup.portal.com
