My host system (lognet2.af.mil) finally upgraded to 2400 baud on its dial-up line. So, I guess I should finally do the same. I know prices are generally in the ~$100 range, so the question becomes, Which is the best buy? What I know about modems follows: 1. I currently use a SmarTeam 1200 on my A1000. It has performed flawlessly since early 1986, used every day from 1 hour to as many as 12 continuous hours. One got fried by lightning and they replaced it free within 48 hrs, so the support was great at the time under warranty. 2. I do daily BBSing, in addition to logging into my lognet2 account at least once EVERY day to read comp.sys.amiga, don't you know! 3. I use a Zenith 2400 at work. They work great and no problems for over 5 years. Not sure what Uncle Sugar pays for them though or what I could get one for or if I can get one. 4. I've seen ads for Supras and Baud Bandit, and generally understand the features. 5. I'm not sure what the 'zi' on one of the Supra models is other than 'internal'. Is that all? Or, does it refer to MNP5 like one of the Baud Bandit models? 6. Speaking of MNP5, I know the modems at BOTH ends need to support it, but is MNP5 in the 2400 baud modems compatible with MNP5 in the 9600 baud modems, connecting at 2400 baud, of course? Is it worth the extra ~$50? 7. My A3000 should arrive in a week or so. Are any of the internal modems compatible or should I stick with the external (and save a slot)? I have no desk space problems and rather like knowing what the modem is doing, i.e., being able to check the idiot the lights, hear the speaker, etc. I'll take any and all information I can get. I am particularly interested in hearing what other A3000 owners use. I can summarize if there is enough interest. As always, TIA (Thanks In Advance).
