Ok, ok, enough bitching about the 720K disk size, the lack of a HD driver or the fact that Minix takes over the machine. Until (and unless) someone writes a Minix that co-habits peacefully with AmigaDOS, we're stuck with it. I ordered my copy from PH a couple of weeks ago and am more concerned with making the environment as usable as possible than bitching about its shortcomings. Having Minix on my Amiga will let it live much more harmoniously with my other 2 Unix systems, and that's a plus. Anyway, enough sermonizing.. What We Need Now are some decent programming libraries and/or kernel calls to get at sound, graphics, intuition and DOS files under Minix. I don't see any reason why we can't do it all with libraries, since we don't need supervisor mode to do any of the above (correct me if I'm wrong). I assume that Minix, not being VM based, will allow a process to scribble anywhere in memory, no? As far as utilizing the Amiga's unique capabilities are concerned, I don't see why one need lose any functionality by running Minix if people are willing to coordinate the work involved.
