Well, (Marco) I just got my A3000 and am finally ready to give up on OnLine!. I still like many of its features and never found anyone with ATalkIII to try out, so I've been sticking with it. Anyway, in 2.0 mode the screen that OnLine! opens is about 4 times as long as workbench. This has the effect that everyth scrolls down off the screen and I have to keep clearing the screen so I can see what is happening. I suppose this is caused by the new display modes, etc., but it is annoying and I DON'T like having to reboot into 1.3. BTW. Thanks to whomever wrote that reboot utility that lets you do that WITHOUT having to power down/up. Anyway, what I'd like to know is: 1. Does anyone KNOW what is specifically wrong with OnLine! (Platinum) that causes this behavior? And, is there a fix? 2. Does anyone know if ATalkIII has ANY flakiness with 2.0 and the A3000? Also, what is the most current version I should get? I plan to order from Safe Harbor. I'd use the Oxxi tradein, but I think I come out just about even cost-wise using mailorder. BTW. That is a real pet peeve of mine. Upgrades cost almost as much as buying something mailorder for many products. A lot of time, its just a waste of time to upgrade, easier and cheaper to order through the mail. Cheers, Dave CMSgt David K Detert, USAF MILNet: detert@lognet2.af.mil PS. Nice job on the A3000. I may be TOO easy to please, but all the little built-ins, etc, are really neat. Tommorow I start learning AmigaVision, which by the way was NOT shipped WITH my machine, nor was there any coupon. So, it looks like that is still some kind of problem for Commodore. My unit is the latest A3000-16/50, so it wasn't sitting around up there.

(Platinum) >that causes this behavior? And, is there a fix? I finished an article for an Amiga mag recently - it was a comparison/review of the current crop of Amiga terminal programs. Online!Platinum was one of them. I made a chart to accompany my article and one of the parameters on my this comparison chart was "Runs OK in 2.0?" When I went to test Online!Platinum in 2.0 I found what you did - it opened a window of humungous size. So after puzzling over this for a while I called Rawls Sansome at MSS Tech Support in Florida. Rawls explained to me that under 2.0, Online!Platinum thinks it's running on an A2024 monitor. So it opens a screen with enormous dimensions. He gave me a "NewZap"pable patch to fix the problem (by patching O!P, not 2.0 :-) which I have lost in the hurricane of notes on my desk, but he also advised O!P owners could call MSS' support BBS for the same info and/or voice phone them to get this patch on disk. The patch, when applied, will correct the problem you are experiencing with Online!Platinum. Harv Laser {anywhere}!crash!hrlaser "Park and lock it. Not responsible." People/Link: CBM*HARV

Unfortenatly the way they checked for that got slightly mangled somewhere, so they opened accidently a non-scrollable 1008 x 800/1024 screen. Don't give up on Online! for this reason. Get in touch with MSS about this.

The patch is to search for the following:
0C 40 00 22
63 00 00 84
^^
and replace it with:
0C 40 00 22
60 00 00 84
^^
Finally, save the change.
I tried it and it works, BUT OnLine! SURE SLOOOOOWS down the system.
I thin I will still switch as soon as I get home from a couple of
business trips.

PS. Thanks for the tip Harv. BTW. Did you notice the SLOOOOOOW down also
or is it just me? It seems much worse than on my A1000.
PPS. BTW, has anyone noticed a similar slowdown with ATalkIII. A few folks
responded to my earlier post (thatnsk again), but I wasn't aware of this
effect at the time in 2.0.

Does anyone know if ATalkIII has ANY flakiness with 2.0 and the A3000? >Also, what is the most current version I should get? A-Talk Release 1.3c, released at DevCon '90, is fully compliant with the 2.0 software. If you look at the Commodore ad that lists the compatible software (now appearing in AmigaWorld and Amazing Computing) we're right in there. Oxxi started delivering versions with the 2.0 compliant green stickers only a month ago, so I don't know if these copies have reached the dealers' yet. Earlier A-Talk III 1.3c copies with no stickers are identical in functionality with the ones with stickers. > I plan to order from >Safe Harbor. If you get it from mail order, you have NO assurance that it will be the last release and upgrading will cost you money (Oxxi used to give out free upgrades if you bought a version that was earlier than the current one. They no longer do that, since I upgrade the software too fast for them to keep up with it :-) Sorry). >BTW. That is a real pet peeve of mine. Upgrades cost almost as much as >buying something mailorder for many products. A lot of time, its just a >waste of time to upgrade, easier and cheaper to order through the mail. Upgrades for A-Talk III have always been pretty reasonable as far as price is concerned, and definitely much less than the mail order price. -- Marco -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Xerox sues somebody for copying?" -- David Letterman -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Nothing of that kind was ever experienced during testing with Betas of 2.0 or the actual release. Since I use A-Talk III with 2.0 daily, I would assume I would have noticed something like that. Moreover, no end-user has reported such behavior with the A-Talk III 1.3c release. -- Marco -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Xerox sues somebody for copying?" -- David Letterman -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
