Have any of you out there gotten your new SEARS Wishbook? If so, have you scoped out the A500c/A1084s ad (I forget what page it's on)? Not only do they state that you can run TWO programs at the same time (funny, I seem to remember running 7 just for the hell of it)...but they don 't even have the power on. The worst part of it though, check out what's on the screen! They talk about its easy-to-use GUI in the description...but they show WINDOWS on the screen...and it's not even WIN3!!! That's not all - I was talking to my mother the other day - (she has a 1000 - way to go mom! :-) Anyway she as a bit confused - it seems that the 500 doesn't come with disk drives? and only uses 5 1/4" drives? It better - according to the Sears book - that's how all the software gets sold...... :-( A few months ago - someone yelled "Yippee! 500's are going to be sold by Sears"... I mentioned at that time that this would be a two edged sword... Most of the Sears personnel I have met have very little knowledge of computers in general ("It sells just like a stereo - right? same commission?" :-^ ) Well - it seems that right out of the chute - they've already blown it. :Richard E. The A500 is your souped up A1000, the only difference being that Commodore corrected most of the things where they screwed up the A1000. -Joseph Hillenburg UUCP: ...iuvax!valnet!joseph ARPA: valnet!joseph@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu INET: joseph@valnet.UUCP

Yeah like getting rid of those NASTY screwups like: o An internal power supply and power switch. o A detachable keyboard o The ability to run older versions of software using Kickstart on a disk. o Having the disk drive in the FRONT of the machine where it's actually easy to use. The only reason CBM dropped the 1000 for the 500 is that they wanted something CHEAPER to produce. The 1000 cost too much to sell it for under $600. The 500 give CBM a larger profit margin. The 1000 was too middle of the road. CBM wanted a high and a low end machine. So they made a 2000 and a 500. The 500 is definatly NOT a souped up 1000. It's only advantage is that it is still upgradable by standard means (officially sanctioned by CBM). -- John Sparks |D.I.S.K.
