[comp.sys.amiga] AmaxII Networking for ROMS

andrewsr@romulus.rutgers.edu (Rich Andrews) (10/02/90)

Hello all!

Someone recently posted that they had successfully networked an Amiga
w/AmaxII to a mac to transfer the ROMs. I am very interested in the
details.

At my school (Rutgers), Macs rule. In the microlab there are only 2
Amigas (a 2000 w/ 1MB ram and a 40MB hard drive and a basic 1000). In
comparison to the numerous macs with 8MB ram and 100+MB
hard drives, the Amy looks pretty lame. I am buying AmaxII to
demonstrate it to the bigwigs in the hopes that it will attract some
attention. This school pays big bucks for PCs, and I would love to
see some of it directed at the Amiga.

My plan is to introduce the AmaxII as a working unit for only $150.
Then, if it is useful enough, the lab might get one. If it gets
used, then they may consider getting more Amigas w/ AmaxII and maybe
more memory, etc. They have a great number of macs and could read the
roms from them; they also have several external drives to load the
Amy. Of course, I don't know how favorably it will compare to the
Macs, but I hope it will generate at least some interest. As of now,
the Amiga is barely touched while the Macs are HEAVILY used.
Obviously the University is reluctant to invest anything more into the
Amy.

Any suggestions/advice/etc please send via EMail.

Thanks in advance,
-Rich
