[comp.sys.amiga] AMAX II Problems

mike_myke_schwartz@cup.portal.com (09/28/90)

I am a recent purchaser of AMAX II. I would like to report some problems that
I am having with the product. If someone out there has found solutions to
these, I would appreciate a reply!

First of all, my system is:
	A2630 (68030, 25MHz, 4MB 32-bit RAM)
	Fat Agnus
GVP Impact-80 (just upgraded to FAAASTROM)
Syquest 44MB removable hard disk drive

Now for the problems

1.	Even though I have the latest and greatest GVP ROMs, I cannot
format either a Syquest drive or a partition on my 80MB drive
and use it with AMAX at ALL. I called ReadySoft and they told
me that GVP has a problem with Syquest drives. I called GVP and
they said ReadySoft has the problem. My dealer, HT Electronics
mentioned that Commodore itself says that the Syquest drives have
a problem. I called Syquest and they say that they will supply
me with a ROM replacement. Commodore says that this ROM will
also improve the reliability of the Syquest drive. The Amiga
has no problem using either the 80MB drive or the Syquest...

2.	When I click on the "use workbench" colors option on the startup
AMAX screen, I end up with white text on a black background
instead of black on white which is what my workbench colors are.
This is really stupid of AMAX to not just use the colors the way
I set them instead of inverting colors 0 and 1 in my workbench
	palette.

3.	ZTerm does not work under AMAX II. It crashes during ZModem
	transfer.

I did not find either GVP or ReadySoft to be of any help to me and
I did not get an answer or an idea of when we would have a fixed
driver from either.

Good luck to anyone else out there who has a GVP controller.

As far as the workbench screen colors problem goes...

I uploaded a textfile into GEnie that explains how to modify
AMAXII to black on white (actually any color on white), using
a sector editor... This allows you to select the "Default Colors"
button on AMAX and not have to live with light blue on white.

	I think I named it Amax_color_mod....

	-MP-

I have no problem with AMAXII and colors - I just created a separate disk with black background and white second color and it comes up fine. Since I have a flicker fixer, using 704*670 overscan is also a big improvement with this version.
I am having problems with the imagewriter emulation though... it won't print sideways in faster mode when using IW-9 and it prints extraneous characters too.
