Hi. It seems to me that there is quite a bit of prejudice against the Amiga. It is certainly that way at our school. I talked to the director of DCO (Departmental Computer Organization), and CAEN (Computer Aided Engineering Network), and neither were even interested in seeing the machine. Now, we have somewhere on the order of several hundred Macs, >500 Apollos (of various flavors, mostly 3500s), and a whole slew of other machines. It seems strange to me that they are interested in acquiring new Macs, when the Amiga is cheaper, faster, and has better graphics (8 bit graphics still don't cut it against the Amiga, we only have a few machines with 24 bit cards, and they don't work to well anyways). Also, if you stick an 040 board in there, you have RISC performance (and still keep code compatability). You can use the machine in several ways: as a workstation, as a micro, etc. As a workstation, the Amiga would be low end (until 040, whereupon it would be mid to high end). We have a couple of labs of DecStation 3100s here. About half are mono 1280x800 and the other are 8 bit 1024x768. You can do this with the Amiga too: Get an A2024 or the Lowell graphics board. It would still be cheaper. If you are going to use it as a micro, it would fit well into our labs. We have everything networked. Just pop an ethernet board in, and away you go. It just pisses me off that they are discriminating against the Amiga. Things must be improving on the Amiga front. Today I picked up last Tuesdays Australian newspaper, and read its weekly computer section. Normally the only mention of Commodore is when they announce a loss. (even the announcement of the 3000 only got a paragraph near the back page) There was an article on the UNIX show and nearly 3/4 of the article was about the Amiga 3000UX. There was another article on multimedia stuff, with favourable references to the Amiga and the programs available to it. Things are looking up. ******************************************************************** Colin Adams Life's funny but I don't laugh Email Address - cpca@marlin.jcu.edu.au ********************************************************************
