[comp.sys.amiga] Improvements for AmigaVision.

WHE46@ccvax.iastate.edu (Marc Barrett) (10/09/90)

AmigaVision is a very powerful program, with lots of capabilities, but
like all programs it does have its weaknesses. It is lacking in a few
areas, and I'd like to suggest some improvements for it.

In particular, AV is lacking in its support for ANIM files and
ANIMbrushes. I would like to see AV improved by adding support for both
standard ANIM files and ANIMbrushes. More importantly, however, I would
like to see AV be the first program to fully support the new CFAST
animation format established by Disney's Animation Studio. This new
format has a lot of potential, because it incorporates sound effects, SMUS
musical tracks, timing information, multiple pallets, and the ANIM itself
in one file. Supporting this file format in AV could be a BIG boost
to its capabilities.

AV also seems to be lacking in its support of the Amiga's resolution
modes. Although it does support all standard Amiga resolution modes, it
does not support any of the new ECS resolution modes. Though some could
argue the value of resolution modes like Productivity for video work, the
Super HiRes mode is great for titling, and support for it should be
included in AV. I would also like to see support for Amiga video
improvement products, like HAM-E, DCTV, various other framebuffers, and
the Toaster.

Finally, other improvements which would be nice include support for
CD-ROMs, improvements in the support of HAM, a larger ARexx command set,
and better support for text files. I am hoping that Commodore will
continue to expand AV, improving its capabilities. This is a very good
program, but making it better won't hurt anything, especially as
other companies continue to expand and improve their multimedia programs.
