There is a hoary old tale about two profs who went on summer
sabbatical and set their mailers to respond automatically to
all messages. The net collapsed in a few days when it filled
with the messages they generated and sent to each other.
(This has been posted to the net many times.)
Does anybody have any *other* interesting anecdotes in this vein?
I would especially be interested in well-documented examples but
any good story will do. Please respond by mail. I will post an
article to net.followup if I get some good ones. Thanks in advance.
(In case you're curious, this has to do with research into
anomolous behaviour of message systems.)
