[comp.sys.amiga] MS-WINDOWS 3.0 on Amiga AT bridgeboard?

tensi@informatik.tu-muenchen.dbp.de (Thomas Tensi) (10/12/90)

Hello,

I have trouble with MS-WINDOWS 3.0 on an AT 2286 bridgeboard in an AMIGA 2000A.

Two days ago I installed it on the AT's hard disk; the installation procedure
went fine (I selected CGA, 102keys keyboard, AMOUSE.DRV and no network).

But when I start WINDOWS, some problems occur:

   - WINDOWS doesn't work in standard mode (I guess this is protected mode for
the 80286); you can start it, the startup screen appears, but after a
while of reading the hard disk the program stops and the DOS prompt
appears with the system still being in two-colour graphics mode. But
you can still work with the system (no lockup).

   - WINDOWS works in real mode. When you leave WINDOWS, the screen gets
cleared (this is as expected), but the system hangs in two-colour graphics
mode. No change to do anything: even a restart of the PCWINDOW emulator
doesn't help. The only way to handle that is a PC reset (by Ctrl-Alt-Del),
but sometimes that fails, too. I got rid of any stuff possibly causing
problems like JDISK.SYS, HIMEM.SYS, SMARTDRV.SYS, but nothing worked.

Ok, I could live with real mode (although I'm surprised, that I don't have an
80286 :-), but (my father being the main user of PC mode) the fact that he
can't leave WINDOWS without doing something obscure as shift-cross your
fingers-eject disk with your left ring finger... will be a severe disadvantage
of the AMIGA (because it is configured as a sort of turn key system for him).

Does anyone out there use WINDOWS 3.0 on an AMIGA AT card without problems??

                Thanks for your help

P.S.: Sorry if this should be a double post. The first one didn't show up in
this group, so I tried again...
