I have been using VISTA for a week or so (fantastic program!!) and I decided to try to save the CraterLake DEM file as a TS object to see what would happen. I tried resolution 2 (it has 1, 2, 4, and 8, where 1 has the most polygons, 8 the fewest. TS only accepts 2 and up) but the object was 900K!! so I tried 4, and the final object size was ~200K. I loaded this into TS 3.0 SV on my A3000 under 1.3.2 and it loads with no problem. In the editor I can preview it in wireframe mode (really nice, too!), but when I tried to render it with one light source and ~100 on each gun for Ambient lighting, I got nothing! I checked the "size" of my world, set it to 8Kx8K so that the camera AND objects were all in the boundary, and rendered again. NOTHING! I tried wire frame rendering and it won't do it. I tried FULL TRACE mode and I get an error box stating NO TAG TABLE. RENDER? (Y/N). I use Y and still get nothing (after 3 minutes of "rendering"). I called Impulse and they said that several people have called with the same problem and that the "answer" appeared to be that the object is TOO big (too many polygons) and that I do not have enough RAM. Well, I have 1.3 Meg BEFORE I run TS 3.0 SV, and the object is only 300K, and IT DOES LOAD and preview in WIRE FRAME in the object editor, so WHAT GIVES? Anyone get VISTA objects to ACTUALLY work with TS? I am going to try level 8 next. Then I'll go to TS 3.0 (takes up less RAM) and then TS 2.0. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks, Scott Sutherland sutherla@qtp.ufl.edu
