Can anyone tell me what frame grabbers and/or digitizers exist for the Amiga? How much do they cost? How fast can they digitize a video signal as a monochrome 640 x 400 frame? Monochrome 320 x 200? Color? Most importantly - can they be used with a genlock, and can the digitizing function be incorporated into a user program? The group I work in likes to show videos, and we would like to have the ability to overlay graphics on the video signal as well as do spiffy titles, so an Amiga with genlock is one way to go. Another way is to buy $10,000 worth of Time Base Correctors and Video Mixers - so the Amiga even looks cost-effective. A video mixer can do split screens, which would be nice, but an Amiga can (I hope, and this is what I'm asking) grab a video frame, threshold it to 1 bit plane and overlay it on incoming video. This is why I'm looking for a frame grabber or digitizer that works with a genlock and can be controlled by an application program. -- Stuart Ferguson (shf@well.UUCP) Action by HAVOC (shf@Solar.Stanford.EDU)

I am currently a developer for the Atari ST (specializing in graphics). I would would like to expand my market to include the Amiga. Is there a video digitizer that will allow you to digitize full motion sequences? I currently use VIDI ST on my Atari which allows me to capture live video sequences at up to 15 frames per second (BW, no color). I would like to find a similar digitizer for the Amiga. 30 frames/sec would be nice, but I would settle for 15. Color is not necessary. I am not interesting in comparing the Amiga and ST (no flame action due to my Atari background). I simply want to expand my machine coverage. From what I have seen so far, most digitizers hook into the parallel port, and therefore could not capture full motion sequences (port too slow to transfer 480k/sec). The Atari uses the cartridge port. Is there an Amiga digitizer that uses a higher speed port (than parallel). Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. Erik R. Yeah, it uses an expansion slot :) David Navas navas@sim.berkeley.edu "Excuse my ignorance, but I've been run over by my train of thought." -me

The LIVE! digitizer is just what you're describing. It hooks directly into the Amiga bus for full speed. The NewTek Video Toaster, due RSN, is a broadcast- unit that will do just about EVERYTHING... --rw fhwri@conncoll.bitnet
