[comp.sys.amiga] Amiga events

critical.mass@pro-graphics.cts.com (Peter Altamore) (10/19/90)

I think I'm gonna vomit. What once was an activity I looked forward to
(reading comp.sys.amiga) has degenerated into a tedious task that is right
up there with plunging blocked toilets. 38.6% of the posts I read tonight
either flame Marc Barrett, blabber about IBM/VGA/NeXT, or reply to, and quite
excessively quote (..yawn..), the -MB- posts. Most of the Marc replies are
predictable copy-cat type posts that age QUICKLY (measurable in ms).

I use an Amiga. There is no finer personal computer. If I wanted to read
about the new Mac/IBM/NeXT systems I'll read those newsgroups thank you.

Does anyone one this newgroup really give two sh*ts about the new Macs? I
find it hard to swallow, here we have a lively and vibrant forum for Amiga
related discussions and all we talk about is the enemy. Luckily Dave
Haynie came to my rescue tonight and posted 4 messages in a row including
his 'Re:DMA or not DMA' reply which will go in my net.daveh directory.
What this boils down to is one very annoyed netter who will eventually
throw in the towel on this newsgroup if it continues to be cluttered with
garbage. When other people start wasting *my* time and money it's time for
a change.

Would whoever is in charge here *PLEASE* split this newsgroup (this is
another tiresome topic that's wasted mucho bandwidth). I lieu of
comp.sys.marc.and.idiots.who.reply.to.marc I would be relieved to see

amiga.multimedia
amiga.emulations
amiga.unixsv4
amiga.help

in addition to this group and the other existing ones. This group *should*
be the place where we sing the Amiga's praise, compare notes on our newest
Arexx scripts, exchange tips and tricks, consider alternative configurations
(input devices, displays, mass storage, memory, etc), explore the
ramifications of CDTV, share experinces, on and on etc..

In my eyes, the usefulness of comp.sys.amiga has been seriously compromised
in recent weeks and tonight (Wed, Oct 17th) it seems to have come to a
head. A very significant percentage of the posts here are about *other*
computers! They all belong in comp.sys.amiga.emulations, please create it!

As long as I have the burners on I might as well suggest that many un-named
people on this newsgroup are seriously abusing .signature etiquette. Please
consider that 10 line .sigs are obnoxious and wasteful. As I remember the
Usenet 'docs' suggest 3 lines MAXIMUM, no corny quotes, no borders, etc..
All we need to know about you is various mail routes!

If I offended some people, that was the idea. Thank you for listening..
